Monday night we were able to go over to one of our friends named Monica and teach her English. She is so cute and I love her so much. When we first went over to her house we were explaining missions and that we leave our family for 18 months - 2 years to serve God. And she looked at us and asked if we get to see our families or our moms during that time. We told her that we don’t, only over facetime and she said, well, I will be your mom. Mi casa es su casa. She is so cute and I love her so much!!!
We had a call with one of our friends named Jimmy and he has been looking into the church and that has been very cool to watch. And then we were able to call a friends friend named John. He is very inspiring, he has been looking into the church and wants to be baptized and make that difference in his life. He has already been meeting with missionaries, but it was such a good call with him talking about the church and what he has learned so far. There are so many good people in this world who are not members. And I think we should cherish them so much because we can learn so much from them. Not being a member doesn't mean anything, like Jesus we should love all.
Tuesday was a crazy day, we started the day off with a pass-off lesson with the elders, we went to the ladies door and she wasn't home. So we went home and did some work. About 15 minutes later we went to a lesson with our recent convert Patricia. She is so cute, we were able to talk about her baptism and what she felt and loved. It was so cute to be able to hear her testimony about the church and to help her to make these next steps on her Covenant path. Then we went to the church to have another pass-off Lesson with the elders.
This is for Jason someone that we have been teaching. He was on date for baptism but because of some things we had to take him off. But that is alright, one day he will be baptized. It was a great lesson we were able to get to know him better and how we can best help him. It is cool to be able to work with all of these different people and see their testimonies. They are all so strong and I am able to be strengthened because of them. It is also cool to be able to teach with other missionaries to see how they do it and how I may want to apply things they do into my teaching. We have amazing missionaries and I love being able to work with them!
We went home for a little bit and then had English class a little early this week, because we had trunk or treat. English class was amazing as usual and our students are learning a lot and they are teaching me. It is amazing to see their progress!!! We then went to our first trunk or treat of the night. Desert Bloom, it was cool to be able to see all of our Latinos and all of their decorated cars. The elders joined us because we were combining it with another ward. Then we went to the
Serene Ward trunk or treat. Oh my goodness white people down here love their trunk or treats, they go all out. Food and games and amazing cars. I walked up and was shocked. Halloween is not my favorite holiday at all, I hate scary movies and haunted houses, and I’m not a fan of dressing up. Let me just say I would rather just skip to Christmas, but that is just me. Well I was shocked and loved it, all of the members were so sweet. Bishop Burr is amazing and set up a table for us to give out candy. And then they loaded us up with food. Let me just say I will be eating chili for a while, hehe. It was so kind and I am very appreciative of it. It was an amazing night and we were able to get to know more of the members, I loved it.
Wednesday we went and had lunch with our district, we needed to get rid of some of the food we had been sent home from the trunk or treat with, we knew that elders could do it. It was a lot of fun to be able to spend some time with them. Well they made a little dent in the food, I was a little disappointed in our elders but it is fine. We then were able to meet with Tiffany. She is so cute, we are working with her on the word of wisdom. She has such a strong testimony, but with the little things it will
come over time. We just love meeting with her and getting to know her more. We then had a busy night of meeting with people. We first went to the Rodriguez and Gracia family's home. Their dog just had babies and we were able to go over and see them. And they were so sweet to feed us. We love them so much and it has been amazing to be able to grow that relationship with them. Then we went to the Bartus, they are a family we have been able to get to know over this last little while. So sweet and a family that has been fun to get to
know. And then our ward mission leaders house. It is always so fun to go over there once a week to get to see them and share a message. I think that one of the coolest things about being a missionary is being to work with the members. We have so much that we can learn from them and their insights. And then we ran over to one of our members in the ward who is actually a service missionary in our mission. He is a middle aged man with a family and decided to do a mission. So there he is and it was cool to be able to have a lesson at his home with his wife and kids. We were able to talk about the temple and what he has to look forward to. The spirit was really strong, it was an amazing lesson.
Thursday we had a call early that morning with a lady, she wants us to call her more often and share messages about Jesus Christ. It was so
sweet to hear the sincerity in her voice. We then went and helped the elders with a service, this lady was laying a rock pathway down in her yard. Let me just say that this only happens in Vegas. Me and Sister Wright still didn't feel the best but we knew that service would help which it did. It was a good way to get out of the house and help someone else. We were able to go and have English class with one of our friends, she is so cute and brightens our day. We were on the lesson about families and it has been so much fun to
be able to tie the plan of salvation into it and give people the knowledge that we have! That night we went street contacting at the park and find some people who are open to the gospel. It was also one of the elders birthday in the district so we went and got him his favorite ice cream. Well when we got there they weren't home, so we didn't want it to melt. So what did we do, we broke in and put it in their freezer. Probably not the best thing but we had to save the ice-cream haha.
Friday was Nevada Day!!!
it is like Pioneer Day in Utah, to a missionary it is nothing. but another fun thing to celebrate, everyone here thinks it is stupid and that is why I love it even more!! We were able to go over to the family history center and they were able to teach us how to use our family history. This is something that they are going to start using to help others learn more about the church. So they are training all of the missionaries. Let me just say it is such a good thing but it is so confusing, but we will get there. I was able tolearn more about my family and so that was a lot of fun. From that we went to district council. That was awesome, we were able to talk about ways that we can help the people that we are teaching. It is always enlightening. When we were there we found out that Elder Hill, the companion to the birthday Elder, Elder Wright gave us his favorite ice cream flavor not his companions, the birthday boy. Haha I should have known that he did that. I have known him long enough. Some good laughs but what are you going to do about elders? I don't know! We then got a call from Elders in the West Mission, they needed help. There was a lady moving into our area and she needed help moving. They asked if we could help her in an hour and find people to help. Well of course we said yes and luckily the Zone Leaders and our Sister Training Leaders were able to come and help us. Emergency service is
always fun and makes life exciting. We managed to break the light in the storage unit by trying to stack boxes and getting stuck with all of the stuff. Overall it was a lot of fun!!! We hurried and went home to change, we had a lesson with Mike, we needed fellowship so we texted everyone in the ward and at the last moment we found someone. We went to the church and the ward member had forgotten and was not going to be able to come. So what we did was we went outside, sat in our cars, we opened the back end and he pulled right next to us. It was a lot of fun, and the weather was amazing. Perfect for the lesson.
Saturday was a slower day, we were able to call one of our members who we have been working with for a while. She is a little crazy but we love that. Then after some of our studies a lady in our Spanish branch was having her daughter's baby and wedding shower so we went to help set up and helped with everything. It was fun, let me tell you Latinos go all out, there was even a band with food and dancing. You can never get it past Latinos to have a party even for the little things. We then went out with the STLs it was fun to be able to go and spend time with them and get a different pace at night. We went to the park and talked to a lot of people. We found 5 people and then we went home and were making some phone calls and we were able to call this one guy who was in need of some help and it was the right time for us to call him. God knows how to work and it is pretty amazing!!! We were able to invite him to church but sadly he wasn't able to make it. Overall a good night.
Sunday rolled around, we were asked to speak in our Spanish branch and our English ward. Luckily they told us that we could pick our topic, so we were able to use our same talk. Well let's just say that I thought the Spanish one was not the best, but let's be real, I wouldn't know. I hope that it did and everyone was so nice and complimented us. We were running out of time so I had to improvise and threw some of my own things in it. So that makes it fun. But then in the English
Today I want to share the first vision with you. Because it is something that we should all remember, it is a day in history that changed everything. And has made it better for us so
we are able to see God and Jesus Christ again and what a blessing that is. A young boy at 14 years old had a question that we all do, and in James 1:5 he read, If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all me liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.
And I love what he does with his answer. He decided to go and pray unto God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ so see if these things were true and this was his experience…
“I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. … When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!”
I don't know about you but every time I read it, hear it, or say it, I just get goosebumps and know that this is real and it was true. Because he was not perfect and had a third grade education and no man like that couldn't have done anything that he did without the power of God. How amazing is that!!!
He changed everything for us all so we could have this. He was a lamb to the slaughter and he did it because he knew it was true. How crazy is that. I don't know about you but this is so amazing and something that I am blessed to be able to have in my life. Because of him I am able to go out and to share the gospel with everyone so they can have the same blessings that I get each and every day!!!
I hope you all know what the first vision means to you.
I love you all and hope you have an amazing week!
